Application
Duties
The York County Volunteer Association/Bargain Box couldn’t
operate without the dedication of our volunteers. Volunteers are
the strength
of the ministry, both in muscle and in heart. Without them, our outreach
ministry would wither.
Behind the scene volunteers accept donations as well as sort and price
merchandise, and help with all kinds of repairs and maintenance. Volunteers
answer phones, stock the thrift store shelves, and display merchandise.
Volunteers at the Bargain Box also assist with the sizing, tagging,
and handling of clothing, maintain the neatness of the shop, and greet
and
assist customers as well as help to maintain a clean and safe work
environment. Cashiers and assistants are needed, of course, to maintain
the checkout
counter. We also have volunteers who not only complete some or all
of the tasks just mentioned, but assist clients—that is, individuals
who are being considered for assistance.
General Expectations
There are general expectations for new volunteers at The Bargain Box.
Ideally, we prefer volunteers who are willing to commit to a minimum
for four hours per week to a three-month training period. In addition,
it is essential that volunteers are reliable and have a strong commitment
to the goals of The York County Volunteer Organization. Volunteers must
possess good communication and organizational skills along with a positive
and friendly attitude.
