Established in 1967, The York County Volunteer Association was formed
by concerned citizens as a non-profit organization and has provided continuous
services to Hampton Roads citizens since that time. As a young organization
with a handful of volunteers, the Association was incorporated in the State
of Virginia and is governed by a Board of Directors elected by the volunteers
annually at a meeting open to the public. Work is done through committees
who report monthly to the Board of Directors.
Over the years, things have changed tremendously. The handful of volunteers
has grown to over a hundred dedicated individuals who give their time to
help whenever and wherever needed. The yard sales first established to
raise money eventually gave way to a small thrift shop established in upper
York County.
It had always been our greatest desire to own our very own facility and
because of the generosity of many special people, our dream came true.
After several years, The York County Volunteer Association purchased land
and built a facility to house The Bargain Box it is now located on Dare
Road in Yorktown, VA.
We have been busy renovating our building over the past few months. We
now have a much larger building. Also worth noting: The Bargain Box has
two changing rooms--a perk not many thrift stores can claim.
Many of our goals have been reached, and we are very proud of our accomplishments.
But there is still so much to do and so many people who need our help.
Please take a moment to browse through our site and see if there is some
way you can lend a hand to help us in our ongoing mission to care for our
neighbors and to help the people of York County and Poquoson.
